JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. — Wildfires burning in Georgia and Florida are charring acres of trees, vegetation and land, prompting fire departments across Florida’s Panhandle and Big Bend to keep a close watch on conditions in their own communities.
In Jefferson County, the county’s Fire and Rescue team said it is prepared to respond if needed as regional wildfire concerns continue. Chief Derrick Burrus said coordination with forestry crews and local resources is key when fires break out.
“It’s a great team effort in Jefferson County because we have forestry local and they usually send out a dozer and also a truck so they have their team out there. We have our volunteers out there and we have our county staff out there two and between the water, and the bulldozers and the hand lines everything gets done,” Burrus said…
