Tigard Police doubling down on distracted driving for April awareness month

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. As a result, local and national agencies are teaming up with local law enforcement to crack down on people texting and driving.

KOIN 6 News reporter Ariel Iacobazzi hit the road with Officer Kolton Fink, a traffic safety officer with the Tigard Police Department, during one of his busy patrol days on Thursday.

“Just kind of dealing with all the nuisance problems for traffic relation, in the city,” Officer Fink said.

Law enforcement agencies like Tigard police are getting extra resources from grant funding to focus on this kind of operation. If you’ve been texting and driving on Tigard streets, Officer Fink might have pulled you over.

“ODOT pays for us to go out outside of our normal work hours so that we can work and get more enforcement action out there and talk to people, educate them on the law,” he said…
