Storage Wars Star Darrell Sheets Reported Online Threats Before His Death

Additional Coverage:

Darrell Sheets, known to fans as a star of the reality TV show Storage Wars, was found dead in his Arizona home on April 22. The 67-year-old’s death was ruled a suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities reported.

In the months leading up to his death, Sheets publicly shared that he had been subjected to online harassment and threats. He reportedly filed a police report in January with the Lake Havasu Police Department, expressing concerns about cyberbullying that targeted both him and his antiques shop, Show Me Your Junk. According to Sheets, strangers had even shown up at his business, adding to his distress.

Lake Havasu Police Sergeant Kyle Ridgeway confirmed that the department is actively investigating the allegations of cyberbullying linked to Sheets’ case.

In one of his posts, Sheets wrote, “Once again, people of Hanavsu, I have been hacked by a very evil person,” denying false claims made in his name and describing the serious impact the harassment had on his mental health. “People are showing up to my work and wanting to harm me,” he said.

Fellow Storage Wars participant Rene Nezhoda, who had a well-known rivalry with Sheets on the show, expressed that the cyberbullying likely contributed to Sheets’ tragic decision. Despite their competitive history at auctions, Nezhoda acknowledged the toll the online attacks took on Sheets.

Sheets earned the nickname “The Gambler” on Storage Wars due to his bold bidding tactics. One of his most notable moments came in 2012 when he purchased a storage unit for under $4,000 that contained artwork valued at $300,000-a record-setting find in the show’s history. At the time of his passing, Sheets’ net worth was estimated at $4 million.

The Lake Havasu Police Department has not released further updates on the investigation. Those struggling with mental health issues are reminded that help is available through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
