Aggressive shark shuts down Huntington Beach surf contest

A shark sighting off Huntington Beach has prompted officials to shut down ocean waters near the pier and pause a major surf competition, according to event organizers.

The shark, estimated to be at least 10 feet long and described as “aggressive,” was spotted Thursday afternoon, the Orange County Register reported, triggering a closure of the water for about a mile in each direction.
