Northview schools warn neighbors after bear sighting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Northview Public Schools are on alert Friday morning after a bear sighting near main campus, school officials say.

A bear was spotted in the neighborhoods surrounding the school district’s main campus off Hunsberger Avenue NE early Friday morning, the district said in an email to families obtained by News 8. The district said it is collaborating with local law enforcement to ensure student safety and encouraged neighbors to alert the authorities to any additional bear sightings.

This is just the latest in a series of bear sightings across West Michigan over the past few weeks. Over the last week, bears have been spotted in Cascade Township, Hudsonville, Forest Hills and now Northview.
