MCSO warns of scammers impersonating mortgage lenders

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is receiving reports of scammers impersonating mortgage lenders.

Deputies say that the culprits behind these schemes imitate a victim’s mortgage lender and demand payment. They would then send their victims bar codes that they can scan at stores such as Walmart in order to give them money.

The scams, according to MCSO, can come from phone calls, text messages, or emails. The scammers threaten immediate default, lawsuits, or foreclosures, and request that they keep the payments confidential…
