Budget Rent a Car Heiress Attacked in Home Invasion in Hollywood Hills

Additional Coverage:

Margaux Mirkin, the 70-year-old heiress and daughter of the founder of Budget Rent a Car, was reportedly the victim of a violent home invasion on Thursday at her Hollywood Hills residence in Los Angeles. According to police reports, Mirkin was assaulted and strangled during the incident.

Officers who responded to the scene found Mirkin inside the home after the attackers had fled. She suffered a broken jaw and signs of strangulation. Property records confirm that Mirkin owns the property where the attack occurred.

While authorities have not yet detailed the full scope of stolen items, they confirmed that cash and jewelry were taken. Neighbors noted that some of the stolen jewelry had belonged to Mirkin’s late husband, who tragically passed away in a house fire two years prior.

Kristen Stavola, executive director of the community group We Are Laurel Canyon, commented on the incident, saying, “She’s pretty shaken up, as anyone would be after being assaulted in your home and watching your valuables get stolen and driven away.”

One neighbor described the street as a “dark” dead-end with little foot traffic, making it an ideal target for such a crime. During the robbery, the suspects dropped a bag filled with a significant amount of jewelry. When a neighbor spotted them and shone a flashlight their way, the suspects fled the scene.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division has taken over the investigation as authorities work to identify and apprehend those responsible.
