Police search for Memphis man after alleged kidnapping call, ransom demand

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating a possible kidnapping after a man reportedly called two people saying he had been abducted and was being held for ransom early Saturday morning.

According to a City Watch Kidnapping Alert issued around 5:45 a.m., officers were notified at the Austin Peay precinct by a woman who said she received a call from her ex-boyfriend, 25-year-old Deonta White, claiming he had been kidnapped.

Police say White allegedly told her he was being held inside the trunk of a vehicle by unknown people who were demanding $500 for his release.

Investigators say White’s brother also reported receiving a call from him, during which White said he was having an asthma attack, was calling for help, and that he had been kidnapped…
