Driver with license revoked for DUI arrested at entrance to The Villages

A Wildwood man was arrested for driving with a revoked license for drunk driving after being stopped at an entrance to The Villages.

An officer was headed east on County Road 466A near Drake Drive when he noticed a white Ford Explorer in front of him around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, April 19, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. An alert from his license plate reader showed that the registered owner, 50-year-old Hugo Edward Borja, had a license that had been revoked for 12 months starting on Jan. 27 for DUI.

The officer stopped Borja at the entrance to the Villages near Pine Ridge. He handed over a printed license that stated “business purposes only” and was in effect until May 10. He explained that he applied for a hardship license after being convicted of DUI, the report said.

Borja had been granted the hardship license, but he never took the paperwork from the Hillsborough County court to the DMV to have it issued. He received the paperwork on or about Feb. 28, and despite having it for almost two months, he did not have the $600 to get it finalized.
