Flood warning issued for Monroe County until Sunday midday triggered by significant rainfall

On Saturday at 8:05 p.m. the National Weather Service released a flood warning in effect until Sunday at 11 a.m. for Monroe County.

The weather service informs, “Small stream flooding along Irondequoit Creek caused by heavy rainfall is expected for Monroe county.”

“Water levels will continue to rise along Irondequoit Creek tonight due to runoff from heavy rainfall. Water levels will remain high through at least Sunday morning. Minor flooding is likely in Ellison Park, and water may approach Blossom Road where it passes through the park,” describes the weather service. “Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.”
