Prince William Worried as King Charles Begins Grueling U.S. Visit

Additional Coverage:

Prince William is reportedly deeply concerned about King Charles’s health as the monarch embarks on his U.S. state visit beginning today, Monday, April 27. King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled to arrive in the United States at 2 p.m. EDT.

Notably, the Prince of Wales has not issued any official remarks regarding the trip, which some interpret as a sign of his reservations. According to royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner, William has encouraged his father to lighten his workload. However, Queen Camilla reportedly opposed this, believing that showing any vulnerability would be unwise at this time.

King Charles, who has been receiving treatment for cancer since early 2024, recently announced that his therapy would be scaled back in 2026 due to positive progress. Despite this improvement, Prince William remains worried about the demanding schedule ahead, which includes visits to Washington D.C., New York City, and Virginia over four busy days.

Following their U.S. engagements, the royal couple will continue their journey with an official visit to Bermuda. Still, Turner suggests that William fears his father is pushing himself too hard and is concerned about the toll the itinerary may take on his health.

In an exclusive comment to Daily Express US, Turner revealed that King Charles and Queen Camilla’s decision to attend the 250th anniversary celebrations in America caused tension within the Royal Family. Sources close to the family said Prince William was against the trip due to his father’s ongoing health issues, but Queen Camilla’s perspective prevailed.

This visit is seen as a significant diplomatic effort aimed at reinforcing the transatlantic relationship during the United States’ 250th anniversary. King Charles is expected to address a joint session of Congress and attend an official White House state dinner hosted by President Joe Biden.

This marks King Charles’s first visit to the United States as monarch and the first by a British monarch since 2007. Pauline Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever, noted that the visit could help ease recent tensions between the U.K. and the U.S., potentially softening President Biden’s stance through the prestige of the King’s presence.

Observers have also noted Prince William’s increasing role in royal affairs, as he quietly assumes more leadership responsibilities in preparation for his future reign.

After the U.S. portion of the tour, King Charles will travel to Bermuda for his first official visit there as sovereign.

Buckingham Palace responded to inquiries by stating, “State Visits take place on the advice of Government,” while additional information has surfaced regarding the King’s extensive requirements during his U.S. trip.
