Gas prices surge in Grand Rapids — with more increases possible

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Drivers in Grand Rapids and across Michigan are feeling the pinch at the pump this week as gasoline prices have jumped sharply, with analysts warning that further increases may be on the way.

According to GasBuddy, the average price of regular unleaded in Grand Rapids has climbed 17.7 cents per gallon over the past week to $3.98 per gallon. AAA puts the statewide Michigan average slightly higher, at $4.02 per gallon — a 19-cent jump from just one week ago. Both organizations note that prices remain about 3–5 cents below where they were a month ago, but are roughly 97 cents higher than this time last year.

Metro Detroit is seeing some of the steepest prices in the state, averaging $4.07 per gallon — 23 cents more than last week and 99 cents above last year’s level. The most expensive markets in Michigan include Marquette ($4.09), Metro Detroit ($4.07) and Ann Arbor ($4.04).
