El Cajon police K-9 receives body armor donation from non-profit

EL CAJON, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A K-9 with the El Cajon Police Department was gifted new body armor from a nonprofit dedicated to saving dogs that work in law enforcement and similar agencies across the United States.

In a news release on Monday, the department announced K-9 Titan received a bullet and stab protective vest from the organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

K-9 Titan is three years old and joined the department last July. He is currently partnered with El Cajon Police Officer Melad Tilko. Titan has been an essential member of the ECPD team, trained in various duties, including building searches and narcotics detection to community engagement, the department said.

Established in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit aimed at providing potentially lifesaving body armor for K-9 officers in all 50 states. Since its inception, it has provided over 6,300 vests with the help of private and corporate donations.
