Sunset Park Pre-Dawn Shooting Leaves 31-Year-Old Clinging To Life

A 31-year-old man is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times on a Sunset Park block before sunrise Monday, according to police. Officers responding to a 911 call just after 3:30 a.m. arrived on 58th Street to find the man with gunshot wounds to his left leg and torso. He was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. Investigators said it is still unclear what led to the shooting.

What investigators say

Police at the scene quickly taped off the area, began canvassing the block and started collecting evidence as detectives launched a criminal investigation. Officers are still trying to piece together what happened in the early-morning chaos.

As reported by News 12 Brooklyn, police say the alleged gunman was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a backpack, and ran east on 58th Street toward Ninth Avenue.

Victim and hospital

Emergency responders transported the wounded man to Maimonides Medical Center, the large acute-care hospital that serves much of southwestern Brooklyn. It is the nearest major trauma-capable center for Sunset Park and received the patient for emergency care.

Suspect description and search

Detectives have not released the identity of any suspect and have not identified a motive, and the shooter remains on the run. Investigators are still canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and pulling surveillance video that might show the suspect’s path along 58th Street toward Ninth Avenue…
