Oak tree planted in Sylvania commemorates America’s 250th anniversary

Sylvania Mayor Mark Frye pointed to an oak tree on the grounds of the city’s municipal complex, saying the tree had been there for 350 years.

“The name Sylvania means ‘land of the woods,’” Mr. Frye said Monday. “Sylvania has been a tree city for decades. It is an honor to host this new oak tree. Sylvania will take care of the tree planted today.”

Lucas County and Sylvania took part in a statewide celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with a ceremonial tree planting as part of the Heritage Trees: Planting History program, led by America 250-Ohio, the official commission coordinating Ohio’s semiquincentennial commemorations…
