Eugene to rebuild south Hilyard Street in phases, starting between 40th and 38th avenues

EUGENE, OR — Drivers in south Eugene will see major disruptions on Hilyard Street this week as the City of Eugene begins a block-by-block reconstruction project that requires full road closures.

With utility work now finished on south Hilyard Street, the city is reconstructing the roadway in two-block increments, starting with Hilyard Street from 40th Avenue to 38th Avenue. Once that section is repaved, the closure will move north to 38th Avenue to 36th Avenue, and then 36th Avenue to 34th Avenue.

The reconstruction requires crews to dig down at least 20 inches to repair everything above the street surface. Because driving on the excavated roadway is not possible except for emergencies, the city is using full closures…
