Spokane invests $426K in public safety for World Cup, reimbursed by Homeland Security

SPOKANE, Wash. — In a unanimous vote, Spokane City Council members voted in favor of purchasing new audiovisual equipment for the Spokane fire department at $200,000.

Its goal is to help coordinate with local, state and federal agencies during major events and emergencies. The money will also go toward equipment to help support an emergency operations center, which will coordinate with the city, police, fire, the county, as well as state and federal security partners.

That approval comes days after the council approved several other World Cup-related purchases…
