ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Spring of 2027 will mark the start of construction for a widening project on Interstate 81 between mile markers 133.8 and 137.
The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded Triton Construction, Inc. of Virginia, a $237.75 million contract to widen about three miles of I-81.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), more than 50,000 vehicles drive on this stretch every day. This project is funded by the I-81 Corridor Improvement Program (CIP). VSP says CIP enhances safety, reduces congestion and unlocks the region for further economic growth…
