Mystery Blast, Raging Fire Rip Through North Sacramento Home as Family Flees

A pre-dawn fire ripped through a single-story home on Yampa Circle in North Sacramento early Tuesday, destroying the front bedroom, killing the family dog, and forcing five people to scramble out to safety. Crews were called around 3 a.m., and investigators say the speed and intensity of the flames have them treating the blaze as suspicious. Neighbors reported hearing a loud boom just before the fire erupted, and authorities quickly locked down the area while arson teams moved in.

According to KCRA, Sacramento Fire Department investigators found an unusually heavy volume of fire in the front bedroom and noted that someone inside the house reported hearing a loud noise just before the blaze broke out. “You can’t even make out what was where, like a bed or a dresser or anything of that nature,” Sacramento Fire spokesperson Justin Sylvia told KCRA as crews sifted through the charred room.
