CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — As the threat of wildfires in the region continues, Chatham County officials are addressing wildfires across Southeast Georgia and the current burn ban.
Authorities from the Chatham County Fire Department, Chatham County Police Department, Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), and the Health Department held a press conference Tuesday morning to provide updates and address the ongoing wildfires in South Georgia and the burn ban. Mandatory burn ban in effect in Chatham County
“Just one spark or ember can ignite a life-threatening wildfire,” said State Forester Johnny Sabo after the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) issued a mandatory burn ban in 91 counties in the southern parts of the state, which officials say is the first in the commission’s history.
