PORT CLINTON – The four Ottawa County Seniors Centers create opportunities to make connections with other local residents, improve health through physical activity, have fun at social events, and gain practical knowledge that impacts wellbeing. On April 15, Ottawa County Probate & Juvenile Court Judge Frederick (Fritz) Hany II and his Court Administrator Shanna Strouse visited the Port Clinton Senior Center to talk about probate and guardianships. Both issues can affect the lives of local seniors and their families.
“We’re here to talk about how to avoid probate to make life easier for you and for your family,” Hany said.
Hany walked the seniors through many probate issues, including wills and the administration of estates. He explained that Ohio Revised Code provides legal guidelines for courts to follow if someone dies without a will. The state’s plan may not align with the deceased person’s wishes, but the court must follow the plan if there is no will.
