OPSO Sheriff Susan Hutson delivers farewell speech as her term comes to an end

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The 51st Orleans Parish Sheriff delivered her farewell speech on Tuesday, April 28, as her term in office comes to an end.

Sheriff Susan Hutson won the position in a 2021 run-off election against incumbent Marlin Gusman, thus becoming the first Black woman to hold the position.

Her career in New Orleans began in 2010 as the Independent Police Monitor for the city. In the past, she has also held positions including President of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE) and President of the International Law Enforcement Auditors Association (ILEAA).
