The new board overseeing the Regional Transit Authority approved a pair of measures Tuesday aimed at exerting more control over agency operations, after New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno instructed her appointees to take a more active role in governing the public transit agency.
The new rules require RTA CEO Lona Edwards Hankins to obtain board approval for expenditures above $25,000 — stricter than the current threshold of $100,000 — and also place a temporary restriction on hiring for certain management roles.
