Woman sentenced to year in jail for Omaha New Year’s Eve shooting that injured girl

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A woman who shot a gun to ring in the New Year, injuring a young girl, is sentenced to a year behind bars.

On Dec. 31, 2024, Tayzhia Hampton fired a rifle in the area of 26th and Blondo. A bullet went through the window of a nearby home, striking a 6-year-old girl in the leg.

In court, Hampton requested a deferred judgment, which would have let her enter a program to potentially avoid a permanent criminal conviction. But the judge denied that request.

Hampton was sentenced to one year, plus one day in jail for second-degree assault…
