Sparks, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — At the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home, an ordinary morning turned into one of comfort and connection with the help of two Gypsy Vanner draft horses.
Residents gathered on the parade grounds Friday as the horses made their way through the crowd. Many residents, most using wheelchairs, were encouraged to pet the animals and spend a few quiet moments with them.
“Horses are magical when it comes to helping with trauma-related illnesses like traumatic stress, anxiety and depression,” said Karolyn Hooper with Horsemanship for Heroes.
