MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — One of downtown Mobile’s most iconic buildings is still looking for a buyer. “The Temple Downtown” has a lot of history and could have a lot of potential.
Most people would recognize the large ballroom on the first floor, but this is a more than a century-old building with five levels. That includes a space for a kitchen and dining. There’s room for a rooftop ballroom. The building has several original paintings in keeping with its early 20th-century Middle Eastern theme.
The temple has been on the market for two years and realtor Bryan Olson says he’s come close to selling it twice, but the deals fell through. They want to find a buyer who wants to fully utilize this place. One proposal could use the building as a boutique hotel and club. That design would build another structure on top of the roof, supported by this massive concrete building.
Another idea could turn it into a theater and community space, or something else inventive…
