Jefferson County commissioners debate building new storm shelter amid space concerns

MONTICELLO, Fla. — Jefferson County leaders are considering building a new storm shelter and gymnasium in Monticello, saying the project could provide more space during hurricanes, tornadoes and other emergencies while also helping the community year-round.

The Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners discussed the proposal Tuesday night as part of a broader effort to revitalize an old historic high school site. The goal is to turn the property into a new emergency shelter.
