Soaking rain will drench Central NY on Wednesday before temperatures drop 15 degrees below normal

A widespread soaking rain will move into the Syracuse area on Wednesday afternoon and become more widespread this evening before tapering off Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain will initially have to overcome some dry air on Wednesday morning, so while radar may show some weak returns early, most precipitation likely won’t reach the ground until this afternoon. The rain could be moderate to locally heavy at times late this afternoon through this evening as a weather system moves through the region.

Flooding is not a concern, as any heavier showers will move through relatively quickly rather than remaining over one location for an extended period. An embedded thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, though confidence in thunderstorm activity remains low…
