Unexpected entry during utility work highlights need to verify utility workers

WESTMINSTER. Colo. (KDVR) — A situation that initially raised concern for a Westminster homeowner is now being clarified by police and Xcel Energy, but officials say it still serves as an important reminder about verifying who is at your door.

According to the Westminster Police Department, the incident happened on April 21 near East 80th Avenue and Raleigh Place. A homeowner contacted police after learning that someone claiming to be a utility worker had entered the home while they were away.

“She said a man claiming to be an Xcel worker talked his way into going inside her home. She wasn’t there at the time, but a family member was there and let them inside,” Samantha Spitz with the Westminster Police Department said…
