Spirit Airlines aware of initial theft before baggage handler charged in second incident at Norfolk airport

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A former baggage handler who worked on behalf of Spirit Airlines at Norfolk International Airport, or ORF, is facing felony charges after court documents say he stole high-value items from passengers’ checked luggage on two separate flights.

Paperwork shows Spirit Airlines was aware of a reported luggage theft involving a baggage handler nearly two months before a second incident led to his termination.

Sterlyn Southall has now been charged with two counts of grand larceny in connection with thefts reported in September and November 2025…
