Burton firefighters battle 27 outdoor fires since April 17

Burton Fire District firefighters have fought 27 outdoor fires as of April 27 although a statewide burn ban has been in place since April 17.

Various types of emergencies kept Burton firefighters busy since the burn ban was implemented in the state earlier in April, fire officials said.

“As of 7 p.m. on April 27, the Burton Fire District had responded to over 16 emergency calls including a house fire, large brush fire, two trash fires and a critical medical emergency,” Burton Fire District Assistant Fire Chief Daniel Byrne said. “Burton, MCAS, and Sheldon firefighters also responded to a large brush fire on Island Tank Rd in Burton. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a large but slow-moving brush fire along a ditch behind some homes.”…
