North Toledo neighbors, police rescue puppy trapped in abandoned Toledo home basement

TOLEDO, Ohio — For five days and five nights, residents on George Street heard whining and occasional barking coming from an abandoned, fire-damaged house across the street.

“We kept hearing something crying,” long-time resident of the area Carlotta Williamson-Brown said. “It would bark sometimes, but it was mostly whining,” she continued.

Brown followed the sounds to the vacant home and discovered a seven-month-old puppy trapped inside a hole where the kitchen floor had collapsed. She said she believed the dog fell into the opening after the back of the house was damaged by fire…
