Charleston County reallocates $910K to Ten Mile community infrastructure project

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — Charleston County Council approved the reallocation of $910,000 in leftover American Rescue Plan Act funds to go towards creating a detailed master plan for installing sewer infrastructure in the Ten Mile community.

The money stems from savings from the Snowden Infrastructure Project, resulting in $549,000 in savings, and the Mount Pleasant Connections Program, designed to provide individual connections to water and sewage in Mount Pleasant, with $360,500 in savings. The infrastructure project will eventually remove the reliance on septic tanks and bring a clean water system to the historic African American settlement community known as the Ten Mile community.

“This is exactly what you want: for projects to come in less than what you allocated,” LoElla Smalls, Charleston County community development and revitalization director, said. “This is great news because not only are we helping one community, the Snowden community, with the savings we’re now able to help a separate community, the Ten Mile community. This funding is helping citizens and homeowners that may have never had an opportunity to connect to wastewater.”…
