In April 2022, inside a small, cluttered home on Wallis Street, a 4-year-old girl stole a sip of Canadian Mist whisky from a bottle on the counter. As punishment, the girl’s grandmother allegedly made her kneel in the hallway and finish more than half of the pint of liquor.
When authorities arrived, 4-year-old China Record wasn’t breathing and was gray in complexion. She died less than two hours later. The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office ruled the cause of death as alcohol poisoning.
Now, her grandmother, 57-year-old Roxanne Record, is being tried on charges of first-degree murder and cruelty to a juvenile in China’s death. Should Record be convicted, she would face a mandatory life sentence…
