Report: Tech giant Samsung inches closer to opening $17B chip factory in Texas

A Korean tech giant is inching closer to opening part of its $17 billion chip factory in Central Texas. Samsung officials held a private ceremony in Taylor to commemorate the installation of its new tooling equipment.

Per reports by the Austin Business Journal, the April 24 event marked another major progression for the company as it aims to be operating the first phase of its Taylor facility by the end of 2026. Samsung’s massive 1,200-acre project has already spurred a growing tech hub of international businesses northeast of Austin and is set to position Texas as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

According to ABJ, this addition of equipment now paves the way for Samsung to begin production on its first semiconductor chips, which are used in artificial intelligence (AI) systems and computing technology for electronics.
