NYers can now get up to $5,000 in unclaimed funds, state comptroller says

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — New York residents with unclaimed money can now claim it faster, and claim more of it, according to the state comptroller.

Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced Thursday that the state is raising the payment cap from $250 to up to $5,000 on lost money belonging to New Yorkers.

Unclaimed funds are turned over to the comptroller’s office and can include old bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance refunds, utility deposits, stock certificates or unused gift cards.
