Two arrested on drug and gun charges after traffic stop near Ashley Phosphate and I-26

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Two people were arrested on drug and gun charges Wednesday evening following a traffic stop near the intersection of Ashley Phosphate Road and Interstate 26 in North Charleston.

Officers were conducting patrols near the area and saw a vehicle with a broken passenger-side taillight. When officers got behind the car, the driver changed several lanes before ultimately stopping near the entrance ramp to I-26 eastbound, police said.

During the stop, officers allegedly reported the odor of “freebase drugs” inside the car and saw a box of ammunition on the passenger-side floorboard. The driver and passenger were asked about a weapon and both allegedly told officers they did not possess any, according to the police report…
