West Michigan youth program providing hands-on job experience

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A West Michigan readiness program designed to help young people transition into the workforce is accepting applicants.

The Ascend Youth Summer Career Readiness program, hosted by West Michigan Works! will provide people aged 16-24 with summer employment and online training to prepare them for future careers in a variety of fields.

The program will run for seven weeks and applicants will work up to 20 hours a week at a rate of $15 an hour. Training will focus on workplace problem solving, the development of soft skills and career exploration…
