Dr. Ly Nguyen’s introduction to ophthalmology began with difficult news: her father needed cataract surgery. At the time, she was a medical student at the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine, still undecided on her specialty. Meeting her father’s surgeon, the late Dr. Jorge Camara, proved pivotal, ultimately shaping her path in ophthalmology.
Under Dr. Camara’s mentorship, Dr. Nguyen developed a strong foundation in research and publication. She co-authored peer-reviewed articles on topics including involutional lateral entropion in Asian patients and the use of computer-assisted imageguided systems (InstaTrak) in orbital surgery.
