HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Volunteers will be cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay on May 2, between 9 a.m. and noon, picking up cans, bags, bottles and other litter at Messick Point in Poquoson, which is one of several clean-up sites throughout the Hampton Roads area and across Virginia.
Clean the Bay Day is the largest single-day volunteer clean-up effort in Virginia each year, according to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. This year, more than 200 sites will be cleaned up by 2,500 plus volunteers who have registered to participate in the annual tradition. Clean-up sites are planned for Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore, Northern Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley, and the Richmond area.
Volunteers can still participate at several sites where registration is not required. Plan on arriving by 9 a.m. at one of these sites if you would like to join the clean-up effort. There are several walk-up participation sites in Hampton Roads…
