TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Mario Lopez-Martinez, a 33-year-old from Mexico, has been sentenced to 16 months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States.
The sentence was announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. Heekin emphasized the importance of adhering to immigration laws, stating, “Our nation’s immigration laws are not mere suggestions that can be brazenly disregarded by illegal aliens cutting in line in front of the thousands of other immigrants trying the right way to enter and remain in our country.”
Court documents reveal that Lopez-Martinez, a Mexican citizen, was ordered to leave the United States in 2017 by an Immigration Judge. He reentered the country illegally in 2019 and 2020.
