Cook County Has 91,587 Unpaid Property Tax Refunds To Sort Out

More than $206 million in Cook County property tax refunds is sitting in a backlog, with bulk issuance blocked and refunds going out only in small batches.

A weekly status report from the county’s Integrated Property Tax System project confirms that 91,587 individual refunds are stuck, blocked by software defects in the county’s new system.

The vendor, Tyler Technologies, and county agencies are working through the problems—but the bulk refund process remains blocked, meaning the Treasurer’s office is, as the report puts it, “issuing refunds in small batches” while it works to resolve underlying data issues.
