State auditor questions decision to make Nebraska school districts repay state aid after miscalculation

The state auditor has questioned the Nebraska Department of Education’s choice to make three school districts pay back equalization aid after a miscalculation found in the fall, according to its most recent audit.

Last fall, NDE identified overpayments to three school districts — Omaha Public Schools, Grand Island Public Schools and Southern School District in Wymore. OPS saw the largest overpayment with $30.5 million.
