WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — April is recognized as National Donate Life Month, which aims to raise awareness about the critical impact of organ donation and honor those who made a lifesaving donation. A Wichita radio personality announced live on-air Thursday that he is doing his part.
KFDI host JJ Hayes first registered to be an organ donor when he was 16. He’s also been on the donor list for the National Bone Marrow Registry for over three decades.
Nine years ago, a listener showed his late wife Michelle that same spirit of kindness, donating a kidney to her while she was battling chronic kidney disease. It was a gift that gave them three more years together before she passed away in 2020.
Hayes will donate his left kidney as part of an exchange involving two other people. In the exchange, Hayes will give his kidney to someone, who will then donate it to a third person…
