CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – We have been tracking this and giving you the First Alert on much-needed rain heading to the Carolinas this weekend. Here’s your complete forecast breakdown.
Rain Chances Peak Saturday Morning
A system moving through the Southeast is expected to bring the best opportunity for precipitation coming Saturday morning. Rain will taper off through the afternoon, with showers moving east of the Charlotte metro area by early evening.
The timing is crucial: you can expect the heaviest rain through mid-morning Saturday. After 1 p.m. Saturday, conditions improve with clearing skies developing through the afternoon and evening. But a few showers will be possible through the evening hours
Rain amounts: Most areas will see light to moderate rain with amounts generally around a tenth of an inch. Areas along our South Carolina border could receive up to a half of an inch. While not a soaking rain, this moisture will provide some relief to our ongoing drought conditions.
Temperatures well below normal
Temperatures are expected to remain well below normal. Highs Saturday will reach only the upper 50s to low 60s.
How to prepare: Plan for a cool morning commute and keep a light jacket nearby.
Mountain frost possible Saturday night
If you live in the mountains, take note: Cool temperatures Saturday night could result in frost early Sunday morning. Temperatures in higher elevations above 4,000 feet could dip into the mid-30s, with some areas above 5,000 feet potentially dropping below freezing…
