NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After repeated instances of violence on and around WeGo buses, the Metro Transit Authority approved an agreement with the Metro Nashville Police Department to create a new transit policing division.
“This is the first for Nashville to have a transit policing unit,” Nashville Transit Authority Board Member, Jessica Dauphin, said. “This is not the first in the nation. There are many other transit policing units around, right? This is so — we’re not reinventing the wheel here.”
The transit division would patrol several areas, including the WeGo Star station, bus stops, transit centers, parking ride lots, public rights-of-way, transit vehicles, transit routes and areas adjacent to WeGo properties to maintain safety…
