Rockford’s Kayla Sommer makes the day one cut at the PWBA Bowlers Journal Rockford Open

CHERRY VALLEY, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The field of 75 bowlers was cut down to 25 Friday in the PWBA Bowlers Journal Rockford Open at the Cherry Bowl. One of those bowlers who made the cut was Rockford’s own Kayla Sommer.Sommer averaged 206.92 through her 12 games on Friday leaving her in 16th place and well above the cut line. Sommer was a regular on the tour last year. She finished second at the PWBA event in Green Bay.Two other local bowlers, both former Harlem Huskies, did not make the cut. Rebecca Hagerman averaged 185.67 on the tough lane conditions to finish Friday’s action in 62nd place. Kayla Verstraete averaged 174.33 to finish 70th.Olivia Farwell of Elizabethtown, PA had the best day. She averaged 220.75 through her 12 games to lead comfortably ahead of Bernice Lim of Singapore.The 25 bowlers who made the cut will be back on the lanes Saturday at 9 a.m. for the third round (6 games) of qualifying. The field will be cut to 12 bowlers after that. Then a final qualifying round of six games will begin at 2 p.m. After that the field will be cut to the top five bowlers for the Stepladder…..
