Guilford County to receive $4.17 million as Purdue opioid settlement takes effect in North Carolina: Attorney General

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — An opioid settlement that will provide North Carolina with $145 million has taken effect, the attorney general’s office said Friday.

According to the Office of the North Carolina Attorney General, North Carolina joined every state and territory in signing a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and its owners, the Sackler family, for their role in the opioid crisis last June.

North Carolina is expected to receive $145 million from the settlement, which will be used towards addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery, according to the attorney general’s office.

North Carolina schools get their own report card

The state Department of Justice said the following payments will be available to local governments in central North Carolina:

  • Wake County: $6.94 million
  • Guilford County: $4.17 million
  • Cumberland County: $3.26 million
  • Durham County: $2.23 million
  • Orange County: $1.3 million
  • Moore County: $1.2 million
  • Wayne County: $1.2 million
  • Nash County: $1.05 million
  • City of Durham: $470,340
  • City of Fayetteville: $383,005
