On those gloriously long Texas road trips, I tend to stop for a few things- a sugar cane soda, a good pickle, and always for jerky of all sorts. However, for many of us, there’s sadly going to be one last destination- historic Lammes Candies is throwing in the towel after nearly 150 years.
A Texas legacy comes to an end
Lammes Candies, a family-owned confectioner founded in 1885 in Austin, is shutting down after more than a century in business. Known for its handmade sweets and signature pecan pralines, the company has served generations of Texans and remained in the same family for five generations.
Retail locations closing
The company has begun closing its stores across Central Texas. Its Round Rock location closed on April 24, and its flagship Austin store is expected to shut down soon. A final closing date has not been announced.
Financial pressures drive the decision
