Drunk driving crash leaves Belvidere woman critically injured

DEKALB, Ill. (WTVO) – Authorities have cited alcohol impaired driving as the cause of a crash that left a Belvidere woman hospitalized with critical injuries early Sunday morning.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported that at about 9:30 a.m., deputies responded to Glidden Road, south of Mayfield Road, where Melanie Penaran, 20, lost control of her 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer and went off the road, hitting a ditch and colliding with a tree.

She was extricated from the vehicle by DeKalb and Sycamore firefighters, police said, and then taken to Kishwaukee Hospital for the treatment of major injuries…
